We Did It!

Okay, so here we are BEFORE the race ... yes, I took the photo, with my mobile and yes, I have cut half of my face off - but I kinda like the randomness of pics like these.

So eventually the Race got underway, and off we went. I didn't realise Jacqui could walk so fast ... it was tough going trying to keep up with her - but she doesn't drive and hence does a lot of walking anyway, so I suppose it's understandable that she would be quicker than me. AND she's not as heavy as me ...

Eventually, about half to two thirds of the way round, I could see she was desperate to go on ahead, so I told her to go on and I'd see her at the finish line. Of course, letting her go on ahead also meant I could listen to my I-pod ... Okay, so I felt okay while I could still see her ahead, but eventually I lost sight of her. I was honestly walking as fast as I could, and I would have loved to have been able to keep up with her, but there was no way ...

Jacqui finished at 56 m 35 s ... and I was about five minutes behind her, at 1 hr 1 m 50 s. Am I disappointed that I didn't meet my goal of less than one hour? YES! Very. Though in hindsight, to do it in under an hour would have meant shaving more than 7 m 32 s off my time from last year. I am going to focus on the fact that I did it over five minutes faster than last year. Anyway, this second pic is of us AFTER the Race, with our lovely Race For Life medals, and looking a bit hot and sweaty, but still gorgeous, naturally!

At least this year I managed to avoid getting cramp, which was a definite plus in my opinion - at least I was able to walk back to the car afterwards and drive Jacqui home.

Today I have been totally exhausted and feeling somewhat low. I dozed in the armchair this afternoon for a few hours, which has probably done me some good. However, I have been battling the onset of a sore throat all week, which finally made its presence felt today, with the added factor and fun of hardly any voice, apart from the odd croak. I have to admit I don't feel well ... hopefully a good night's sleep will help that, cos I haven't been the gym since Monday and I need to get down there tomorrow, even if I don't do much.

At the moment, I reckon I've raised about £350 for Cancer Research - I need to add it all up when I go to work next week (my paper sponsorship form is there). Not bad, I reckon!
