Slow and Steady Wins The Race ...

Why is it that when you are hastily trying to do something that everything seems to go wrong? For some very stupid reason I decided to charge my I-pod up last night in readiness for this evening’s Race for Life. Why stupid? Remember my big hard drive failure of a couple of months ago? All my music was on it … or more specifically, all my ‘new’ music. Lots and lots and lots of lovely albums by some fabulously talented musicians. Naturally, all that new music was loaded on my I-pod too. Naturally all that new music was NOT on my old hard drive. And naturally the second I plugged the I-pod in to my USB port I-Tunes activated and autofilled my I-pod with stuff from the old hard drive, and deleted everything that wasn’t on the old hard drive; in other words, I lost all my music from my I-pod.

So what, you might think – it’s hardly the end of the world. Hhhmmm, maybe not to you, but to me losing all that music is a disaster. Nine times out of ten, I don’t watch ‘normal’ TV channels; given the choice I surf endlessly through the music channels – and if I can’t watch the music channels then chances are I am listening to music on my laptop instead. There is always music playing in my car, I have the radio on at work all day (or my I-pod if I’m doing something mundane like putting patients on the waiting list or doing appointment letters), and I listen to music at the gym. This isn’t a new thing, I’ve always been like that. There has to be music, and it’s even better if I can sing along with it too.

So there I was … less than 24 hours before my big Race, with the prospect of no music to listen to. Well, when I say no music what I mean is not the music that I WANT to listen to. I was up until far too late last night trying to sort it out and get back what I lost. And happily for me, I managed it, even though I had to get up at ridiculous o’clock this morning to finish it. AND I burned three albums to CD so that I can listen in the car too (The Gossip, Head Automatica and Kaiser Chiefs).

I also treated myself last night to the new Arctic Monkeys CD. Holy cow! I’ve listened to a few songs this morning (on my I-pod while I was doing appointment letters) and it’s absolutely awesome! So lucky me, I now have an I-pod stuffed full of bippity boppity brilliant music to listen to on my way round Cannon Hill Park tonight.

But wait! The stress does not stop there! There are huge black clouds hovering overhead and we have already had a heavy downpour this morning. Could this be an ominous sign that we are going to end up swimming round a course full of mud tonight?
