Hippety Hip Hop Hopping

Well it seems that not only can I not hula, I can't hip hop either! I took myself off to the gym this evening to dip a tentative toe into the waters of the hip hop class, and I'm in two minds as to whether I'll go back next week. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it, but as the only (very) fat girl in the middle of a class of skinny minnies I stuck out like a sore thumb. Not only that, the studio is mirrored and I could watch my every move, cringingly, I might add. Up until I was pregnant with Ethan, I was really quite fit for a big girl - all down to the fact that I'd been line dancing for about six years, often going five times a week - and I had quite a fair amount of stamina. That all changed when I was pregnant with Eth though, cos I was totally exhausted all the time and the dancing just sort of fell by the wayside ... and never got up again.

If, when I was line dancing, I'd been able to see just what a state I looked while I was dancing, I probably would have given up. Watching myself trying to dance in the mirror tonight was horrible. Every time I moved there was fat wobbling in all directions. The t-shirt and joggers I've been wearing tonight are old ones from a few years ago ... and they've got to go. Baggy just is not good - though of course it's a good thing that they are now too big. Unfortunately I don't think there's much that I can realistically do about my bouncing boobies, I doubt very much that I will be able to buy a sports bra that comes with added scaffolding to hold 'em still. Back in the days of line dancing, I really WAS a good dancer ... tonight I just looked like a stupid fat oaf trying to keep up with everyone else. On the plus side, I haven't lost my ability to pick up routines fairly quickly ...

Okay, so I did enjoy it. Hip hop music really is NOT my thing (or should that be thang?), but I do like to dance, so I think maybe I might persevere. At least I feel like I've had a good workout (though next week I think I might take Ibuprofen before going because all that movement has made my pains painful), and burnt up a few calories. Let's hope that I manage to find some gracefulness somewhere before next week!

Ok, I have CT assignments to do. I was going to have some lovely crayfish, prawns and mussels for dinner, but it appears that Sean has scoffed them while I've been out, so I'll do without. Maybe I'll have some cereal later.

I need to practice my hip hop speak as well this week just so I can get into the groove properly next week ... so I shall be going around saying 'Yo, check it out!' and talking about hanging with my homies, with the appropriate arm movements, naturally ...
