Getting There ...

For four weeks we have been living upstairs in the bedrooms. Four whole weeks. I hate my bedroom.

Thankfully, we are more or less on the last leg of the decorating. Andy and Dave (the decorators) are painting as I type this, and by the end of the day it will be finished. My lounge will be gorgeously decorated. Not so the floor, however. We are umming and aahing over what sort of floor to buy. Not laminate, obviously. The choice at the moment runs between three different sorts of solid wood floor - bamboo, beech and oak. I suspect the beech or bamboo will win, though the beech is half the price of the bamboo.

Once the decorators finish today, I need to give the fireplace a really good clean (as it is covered in plaster and muck), then when the woodwork is dry give the carpet another really good vacuuming. Then the new couches can finally come out of their packaging and Colin can put the telly back on the wall when he gets home. At least tonight we can sit in comfort.

All that is left, once we have decided on the floor, is to disconnect the old gas fire and get a new radiator to go underneath the window. We can't put the floor down until the radiator is in. Oh, and we need to remove the pipes that come through the floor where the radiator was before. Then the floor can go down, and I can sort out some sort of window treatment. I am quite tempted by the thought of wooden venetian blinds, but haven't made a final decision yet. In any case, blinds are not going to be cheap because our window is a funny size, so the curtains we had before will probably go back up for the time being.

I'm so glad we're nearly all finished. It's been a funny time. Throughout it all I've had no motivation to do anything - I haven't scrapped in weeks and weeks (though I did start something yesterday).

I don't even want to think about all the dust and muck that's settled throughout the house while all this has been going on ... but I know I have an awful lot of cleaning to (not) look forward to!

I'll be back later to post some piccies of my lovely new room.
