And So My Life Begins ...
Well, it happened. I'm 40. I woke up this morning with the body of a 40 year old woman, but hey, I don't suppose it's actually that much different to the body I woke up with yesterday morning!
I am absolutely shattered, it's been a hectic few days and I am suffering from lack of sleep.
On Thursday I was dragged into one of the other offices at work for a presentation from my colleagues - I got a beautiful bunch of flowers and £53 in cash and a card crammed full of messages from the people I work with. By the time I left work at 4.00 pm I had a bag full of pressies from other colleagues too.
I took Friday off as Ethan was finishing school at lunchtime and I desperately needed my hair cut. I met up with some friends last night for my pre-birthday celebrations. I had invited lots of friends and colleagues to come along, but in the end there was just myself, Jacqui, Ioannis and Neil - and honestly, what more could I ask for - the three most important friends in my life were there and that's all I needed (though naturally it would have been nice to see more people). I had a fabulous time, and achieved my goal for my birthday celebrations - I got very drunk and I snogged a couple of men in the pub. Well, when it's your birthday ... and of course it was my last ditch 'I'm nearly 40' night, so it had to be done! I finally got home at 3.00 am, and by the time I'd faffed about and got to bed it was almost 5.00 am.Today I have had a lovely, lovely day. I had a nice long lie in until about 11.00 am, and then I sat in bed and opened all my presents, which were:
Flowers/£53 - work colleagues
Flowers - Ethan
3 jars of flavoured coffee/Lindt chocolates - Sean
£20 - Irene (Colin's Mum)
Necklace and earring set - Jenny
£25 Selfridges voucher - Ioannis
Bottle of wine/box of chocolates - Charlie
Watch - Si
£40 M&S voucher - Phil
£125 John Lewis voucher - Mum and Dad/brothers and sisters
and tonight we've been to Jacqui's for dinner, and my present from her was a gorgeous top and a necklace and earring set.
Wow, I got so much, I've been so overwhelmed at what fabulous gifts I got. AND, the gift giving isn't over yet - Colin has ordered me a brand new laptop, which should have been here by now but isn't - the latest delivery date he has is 2nd August.
Believe me, there's nothing like a milestone birthday to make you feel loved.
So ... I don't really feel any different. Except maybe I feel slightly more confident, which can't be bad. I think I have made a conscious decision now that I deserve only the best, and hence I might find myself shopping in more salubrious establishments than I have been ... well, it's time for a touch of elegance now, dontcha fink??
