Ethan

Ethan had an appointment at the Children's Hospital this afternoon. Rather than be lazy and drive there, we got the train in (which was hardly any effort given that we live a 7 minute walk from the station, and the Hospital was just 5 minutes walk at the other end.

I was pleasantly surprised to be in and out fairly quickly.

Unfortunately we have come out knowing we'll be receiving a letter shortly inviting Ethan to attend for surgery. My poor little man. I took him to the doctors a few weeks ago with some concerns about his waterworks, only for the doctor to discover a different problem ... today it has been confirmed that he has undescended testicles, and is going to have to have them operated on to bring them down. Apparently undescended testes in adulthood can lead to infertility and a highly increased risk of testicular cancer.

He'll be fine. When we were speaking about it earlier he was quite worried, but I explained about the infertility thing (but not the cancer risks), and he understands that Mummy wouldn't agree to him having surgery unless she thought it was the best thing. On the plus side, he'll get a week or so off from school, which he'll enjoy (but no biking, which is a bummer).

Let's hope we can get it over and done with quickly.
