Goodbye

I heard very sad news on Thursday. At the Hospital where I work, we have a League of Friends kiosk, which is where I generally get my sandwich and anything else I need to sustain me throughout the day. Over the years there have lots of elderly ladies and gents manning the kiosk, and I've got to know most of them pretty well.

Janet was in her mid-80s, she'd beaten breast cancer and endured the loss of her beloved sister (who also worked in the kiosk, along with her husband, who is also no longer with us). Together, her and her sister were like terrible twins, always playing up to each other. They were both full of character and loved by everyone. In the last couple of years, since Janet's sister passed away, we've not seen so much of her, but when we did it was great to have a natter and catch up. In fact, it probably wasn't much before Christmas the last time I saw her.

I discovered on Thursday that Janet had passed away two weeks ago. I am so shocked. She was such a warm, funny, wonderfully witty woman and I will miss her so much. I am focusing on the fact that she will be reunited with her beloved husband, who passed away a long time ago, and that she will be happy and at peace. But I will miss her.

So much bad news around lately - will it ever get better?
