Bath Tales

Still the saga of the bathroom continues. The state of our existing bath is now that Colin won't let anyone use it, so this means strip washes at the bathroom sink each morning and a trip to the gym in the evenings for a shower. Oh bliss. Not.

This afternoon we headed off to B&Q to have a look at tiles in preparation for our upcoming bathfest. I am adamant that I want black tiles on the floor, and white tiles on the wall - we are planning to build a false wall to hide the cistern behind, so the width of the false bit can act like a shelf above the toilet and possibly sink (still not 100% on where everything is going to be) - so the only tiling we want on the walls will be up the false wall, and around the shower. I know which tiles I want - they are called Underground, and are rectangular tiles with a bevelled edge (very reminiscent actually of Tube stations, which is probably why they are called Underground). I would love to have a black slate floor, but there is no way I am paying £70+ per square metre of tiles - particularly as I need at least 8 metres. So I am going to have to settle for a cheaper option, unfortunately.

Porcelain tiles would be nice, but I am concerned that they would be slippery if they get wet at all, so we're sort of having to look at cheaper options that have some sort of grip to them.

Colin says that he is not happy to have a black floor and white tiles because it will look too bland - this is precisely why he should let me choose the colour scheme - black and white will look modern and sharp in my considered opinion. Anyway, the whole point of not tiling all the walls is that we can then paint the rest in a fabulous colour to add some zing - at this point I am thinking of a rich raspberry pink (I know my boys will resist, but I will get my way!). Or maybe a warm sage green ... the possibilities are endless, and the beauty is that we can change the look of the bathroom very easily with just a pot of paint - black and white will go with anything and everything.

We have made progress on clearing out the back bedroom in order for this miraculous transformation to take place - so we are getting there slowly. There is still a load of my craft stuff in there that needs to be sorted out and put away, but that will have to be a job for tomorrow now.

Ethan is back to school tomorrow, and I am sad that our time together was so short and so stressful (that's another story). But it will do me good to get back to work and have something different to focus on, that's for sure.

For now, I am off to knit a bit more of my second Hedera sock and then get some sleep.
