How To Make A Boy Happy ...

... Knit him a hat! I only started this on Wednesday, and boy was it quick! I must admit I've been rather sceptical about knitting with fair-isle yarns up to now, I felt it was rather cheating to use a yarn that did the pattern for you ... but now I would say I am converted.

Ethan loves his hat, bless him, and he apparently can't wait to go out tomorrow so that he can wear it. I've actually got just over one ball of yarn left, and I was thinking I might whip him up a quick scarf too so that he's got a matching set. We'll see.

I've been out briefly on my bike again tonight. I rode 3/4 of the way down the road, then had to stop because there was a car coming up (we live in a cul de sac) ... then about a billion cars came down the road, so that sort of scuppered our chances of riding much back up the road. But it's a start. Tomorrow I'm hoping we'll manage to get to the park or somewhere so that I can have a good long ride, but again we'll see. Unfortunately for us, we have to go and see the Accountant at 11.00 am, but I suppose once that's over we can start to relax and not worry about HMRC and income tax for a bit! Oh, and then get this! The boys had a chinese takeaway tonight, but I refused one in favour of some cod in parsley sauce, with a mountain of green beans and sprouts - yum yum yum!!!

Today, my lovely lovely GranGran (George Thomas Clark, born 1905), would have been 104 years old. I find it hard to believe that it is now around 31 years since he died. I came across a photo of him (and my Grandma) tonight with me and Teresa, at Teresa's First Communion, so probably taken in around 1975 (around three years before he died).

So this is a family photo of him with his brothers and sisters - to be honest, I am surprised to find this on my hard drive, I presume that Mum must have e-mailled it to me at some point as I don't remember having it before. So left to right: Alfred, GranGran (George), Ethel (standing), Rose (sitting), and John. I presume it would have been taken sometime in the late 1920s, or even early 30s, given that Alfred was born in 1917. George was such a fabulous looker - it is a constant source of wonder to me that none of our lot are like the Clarks to look at, though Mum looks quite a lot like Rose. I am apparently very like my maternal great-grandmother (and my Grandma), while the rest of us are more like the Martin side of the family.

Anyway, been thinking about GranGran a lot today, as I always do, especially on his birthday.
