Bilingual?

While we were out with the German side of the family on Saturday a shock revelation hit me as I sat at the dinner table and listened to the conversation going on around me in German ... no doubt about it, I'm never going to be fluent. Yes, I can order coffee, tell you what my name is and where I'm from. I can even go into a Hotel and ask about a room. But fluent everyday conversation seems to be beyond my grasp. Apart from anything else, they talk so quickly ... if I managed to catch one word out of 1000 I was doing well. I can see that any conversation I have in German is going to start with me saying 'konnen sie langsamer sprechen' (which means can you speak more slowly) ... better get some more practice in, me thinks.

Still very tired. I seem to sleep very well, but am just exhausted in the mornings. I am trying hard to cut down the amount of crap that I'm eating, in a bid to be a bit healthier. Maybe I shouldn't mention the mammoth Indian takeaway we got tonight ... I had a craving for one that just had to be fulfilled, and we went a bit mad and ate far too much. But at least my curry craving has been assuaged for the next six months or more!
