105

Uncle Len would've been 105 today, but he died in 2000 at the age of 96. Happy Birthday, Uncle Len.

That's him on the right hand side at the front of the photo. I don't know when it was taken or where or who any of the other people are (some may even be one or other of his brothers - Len was the only one that I knew though).

Uncle Len wasn't even my Uncle - he was my Grandma's cousin, but I suppose when you meet a relative who is so much older than you (he was 63 when I was born) you call them Uncle to convey respect - and I definitely had a lot of respect for him - he was almost 80 when I first met him, at my Grandma's funeral of all places. He used to write me fabulous letters filled with wonderful stories about life in Walthamstow back in the early 1900s. I really must dig some of them out to read again, as no doubt there will be forgotten nuggets of family information in there somewhere. Anyway, I have fond memories of him ... his love for bread pudding and all things that he shouldn't eat, the way he would giggle like a naughty little schoolboy, and the glee in his voice when he would talk about his elder sister, Margaret, calling him a naughty little devil. And the way he was a really lovely old gent, charming to the last - and loved his garden.

Miss him.
