It's Oh So Quiet ...
Aahhhhh ... peace.
Yesterday we drove the kids the 120 miles to Southport (on the west coast of Britain between Liverpool and Preston for those of you who don't know where it is), as they have been invited to spend a week with Colin's Mum. Ethan, bless him, has been bouncing for days now, counting down hour by hour until it was time to go. It was 1.00 am when we got back this morning, absolutely shattered, but it was absolute bliss this morning not to be rudely awakened by a cute 5 year old demanding breakfast at some ungodly hour (for ungodly hour pick any hour between 6.00 am and midday!) Nevertheless, it was about 9.30 when I got up ... Colin was straight up and out the door off to work, so I've had the whole day to myself and it has been wonderful.
I couldn't say that I've got loads of stuff done - unless you count four or five loads of washing; but I've chilled out and surfed the net a bit, had a peaceful breakfast, been out to Costco to get a bit of shopping to last myself and Colin the week, and just generally relaxed. Yep, I should have done some housework, but getting a whole day to myself is such a rare occurrence I decided to be selfish and just indulge myself for once.
Colin should be home soon, and so I ought to go and get some dinner started - we're having marinated beef steaks and new potatoes with sour cream and chive dip on the side, followed by strawberries and cream - very decadent! I've also got to bite the bullet and get all the stamp artwork done so that Colin can make stamps later.
This week has been weird, really busy, yet I feel that I've not actually achieved much. After Tuesday's retirement party at work, myself and Si headed off to Costco on Wednesday afternoon to gather supplies for a leaving party for two colleagues who are headed off to pastures new - Gemmy and Kong have been with us forever, Gemmy for 8 years and Kong for 10. Kong has a Consultant job lined up in Malaysia and Gemmy a job in Singapore - so one of them will be commuting a lot, me thinks. So, we had the party on Thursday morning after the departmental meeting ... and I don't know, just one of those weeks that rushes by without stopping to catch its breath.
Something weird happened on Friday. I was typing clinic letters and my phone rang. I picked it up, and it was ringing at the other end (like I'd made the call), and my boss picked it up. But she hadn't rung me, and I hadn't rung her ... very very very weird and peculiar!
Oh well, Colin is home now, so time to go and get dinner started.
