Creative Genius
I'm not really one for making New Years resolutions, because they never last more than a couple of weeks at the most. But I have been thinking about my lack of blogging over the last six months, and came to the conclusion that I haven't blogged because I have nothing interesting to say, and when I do blog it's boring. So I am resolving to try and be a more interesting blogger.
I thought I'd start by showing my creative genius (not that I have any, but it sounds good). Remember my dyeing experiments back in February? (you'll find my blog post here). Well, it's been really cold here these past couple of weeks - we've had ice and snow and my hands have been freezing. I knew it was time to knit up a quick pair of gloves (Fetching), but I wasn't sure which of my millions of stashed yarns I should use. On a quick tour through my RUB full of yarn I came across the aran I hand-dyed so long ago, and decided to use the bluey/pinkey/orangey mix one. I was interested to see if they'd knit up stripey, but alas they didn't - the pinkey/orangey colour sort of spirals up the glove. Nevertheless, I really like them and the way the colours have knit up. I doubt they will last forever (I finished them on Christmas Day, and already the area above the thumb openings is starting to felt, and there is a bit of fuzzing and pilling), but they keep my hands warm and I have the pleasure of knowing that I was the orchestrator of the weird and wonderful colourway.
And here's my other recent project - an Ishbel. I knit this in lovely Rowan Cashsoft 4 ply - a blend of wool, microfibre and cashmere - it feels delicious and is lovely to knit with, and has great stitch definition. Although this was somewhat of a labour of love due to the fact that the further into it I got, the longer each row was and hence activated my bored-ometer. But I got there in the end, blocked it over Christmas and am wearing it right this very minute - it's very warm and cosy.
This year, I'm planning on doing a lot of knitting! In my next blog post I'm going to show you my current works in progress, which hopefully won't take me too long to complete, and then I have another half a dozen or so projects in mind ...
