Ear We Go ...

Tuesday night I was lying on the bed playing with my laptop. I got up to put the computer away and immediately fell back down onto the bed. Wednesday morning I got up early to go to the loo, and ricocheted down the hallway like a pinball, bouncing off the walls ... I felt very disorientated and off balance. A couple of times during the day I felt disorientated too. Thursday I came down the stairs and into the living room, and Sean caught me before I fell over ... whoo, did I feel strange, and nauseous. He came to work with me because he had an appointment with Waheeda for an eye test, and he had to hold me up almost as we walked across the car park cos I was staggering like I was drunk.

So we left work early and came home, and I still felt odd. I stood up at about 7.30 pm (after sitting down since we got home) to go to the supermarket and get something for dinner, and promptly fell back down again.

Fast forward to bedtime. I got into bed and lay down and all of a sudden I was on the rollercoaster of death, the room was spinning like it was going out of fashion. It calmed down after about 30 seconds, and I was fine until I tried to get up in the night to go to the loo ... as soon as I sat up the room started to move, and the rollercoaster effect came back when I tried to lie down again. When I woke up this morning I had a migraine and felt awful, and I am so mad at myself, but I just couldn't go to work (I have had no time off sick at all for almost three years). I did manage to get out of bed and get dressed, and Sean came with me to help me drop Ethan off at nursery, and then I came back home and crawled back into the bed (with the accompaniment of the rollercoaster). Several times during the day I got up to go to the loo and did the pinball down the hall thing, coupled with the rollercoaster ride when I got back into bed. Unfortunately I knew I had to go and pick Ethan up, and I needed a shower first. Thankfully, when I did go all funny as I was trying to get out of the shower, Seanie was there to catch me (the things that boy does for his Mum!)

Amazingly enough I managed to get myself an appointment at the doctors tonight, and she confirms that I have labyrinthitis. Labyrinthitis, if you didn't know, is an inflammation of the bits in your inner ear that control your balance and stuff like that. I've got some tablets to take to control the vertigo, but I'm concerned that it might not have gone away before we go to Germany. Unfortunately Mum has had labyrinthitis several times, and hers always seems to take forever to get better, and knowing my luck I will be the same. We shall see, but at this stage it's possible that I will be staggering off a plane onto German soil in a couple of weeks. Oh, joy!
