In Progress
I promised pics of my current knitting projects, so here they are:
Firstly, my Seaweed Socks (Lighthouse Gansey Socks). The pattern is from Anne Hanson (Knitspot), one of my favourite designers at the moment. I'm calling these Seaweed Socks because of the colour of the yarn. This is from the first instalment of Lilith's wonderful sock yarn club from October 2009. It's called Bitter Bug, and I have to admit I didn't fall in love with it when I got it. However, once I'd wound it off the skein into a yarnycake, it was easier to see the subtle shades of green running through it, and I'm starting to love it more and more and more. I love how it's knitting up. This particular yarn is a combination of superwash merino and bamboo, so it's bouncy and scrunchy and has a slight sheen, which is what made me think of wet seaweed. The only problem is, I am having trouble with the pattern. There are garter stitch ladders on each side of the sock, and where this corresponds with the start and finish of a row, they look wonky. I have ripped back three times and am definitely following the pattern correctly, but still they look wonky. I think I'm going to have to embrace the wonkiness and hope that they will look better when they're all done. It would be nice to have perfect socks for once!
Here's my second project - Hypoteneuse - again, another pattern from Anne Hanson. This is incredibly easy and seems to be knitting up really quickly. I'm doing it in Rowan Scottish Tweed 4 ply, which I got from the House of Fraser sale for a bargainous £2 per ball the other day. I've never knitted with tweed before, but I must say I am pleasantly surprised. This is incredibly light and feels deliciously scrunchy, and despite being torn between this lovely green and a charcoal grey, I'm really glad that I went for the green, as it can be used year round, whereas the grey would have been more of a wintry colour, methinks. There's still some way to go though, I've done 4 pattern repeats out of 18, but if I can get this finished before the end of January, I'll be happy.
