Bad Blogger

I haven't felt much like blogging lately. It seems that the days are racing past, and there is no time for things like blogging. Maybe that's not strictly true, as I seem to be spending an awful lot of my time on matters of procrastination. Perhaps a more accurate statement would be that I have opened up a new post several times, but then closed it before I got as far as typing anything.

Don't know what's the matter with me, to be honest.

So, what's been happening ... lots really.

Top scrapping news: I've been 'promoted' to Events Manager over at DSS, which is a great honour, and one which I hope I can do justice to. I would love to be able to get the place absolutely buzzing with activity. I have lots of ideas, so stay tuned ...

DNTS (or Digitals Next Top Scrapper): entered, didn't win. Did I expect to? Nope. Did I expect to be named in the top five? Nope, but it would have been nice.

My DNTS layouts:

Okay, so this was week one. The challenge was to scrap about something that someone does that is really annoying ... so I chose Charlie as my subject. Much as I love this man to bits, there are times I could easily throttle him. He is pedantic, sometimes extremely so, and I very often have to bite my tongue to stop myself snapping at him, which naturally wouldn't be a nice thing to do as he's so good to us all at work ... he's our enabler. Whatever we need, Charlie can always sort it out for us.

This is week two ... we had to use one photo cropped in various ways, and the theme was I Wish. I really wish life could be Photoshopped, so it was an easy choice to make, believe me. Out of the four weeks, this is the layout I like most ... and apparently this is the layout I got most votes for.

Week three, we had to use at least five photos and create a layout based on our families starring in a TV show. Lazy Town was the natural choice, because there is so much bloody apathy, procrastination and downright bum sat on the chair all day-ness in this house you wouldn't believe it. I do like this page, though I guess it was never going to win me loads of votes, cos I'm not as super-whizzy a scrapper as lots of the other contestants.

And here we are with week four - we had to scrap a layout from the point of an inanimate object, using either a primary, triadic or ... some other sort of colour scheme (can't remember what it was, and can't remember which one I chose either!) My poor camera, I really must get that bag ordered from Ebay before it gets battered and bruised at the bottom of my handbag!

Okay, so I didn't win. Like I said, I didn't expect to ... when all is said and done, I know that I am just an average scrapper. Does it matter? It shouldn't ... after all, scrapping is supposed to be about leaving memories behind, innit? When all is said and done, I have another four layouts under my belt. They're not the most fabulous layouts on earth, but I made them and that's what counts. Art is in the eye of the beholder!

Home: It's still a tip, but we are getting there slowly ... this weekend I insisted on redecorating the bathroom, which was looking very shabby. In truth it could do with being gutted and totally remodelled, but we don't have the money for that sort of work, and are unlikely to be able to afford it for several years yet ... so to me it makes perfect sense to freshen it up. There was a horrible border round the top of the wall, which we stripped off, thankfully without damaging the wallpaper underneath, so the walls (and ceiling) are now looking fresh and clean again ... the walls are a colour called On Deck, a sort of pale stone colour, and the ceiling is white. Stone might not be the natural choice for a bathroom, but our bathroom is tiny - just 1.5 m x 1.5 m floor space (that doesn't include the bath - but does include the floor space that the loo and wash basin take up), and so I wanted something very light to try and make the room look bigger. I think I made the right choice with the colour anyway. Tomorrow when I get home from work I need to clean the bathroom from top to bottom, and wash down all the woodwork ready for painting. There is currently a carpet in there - it's gross, and not to put too fine a point on it, it stinks thanks to the efforts of my boys who can't aim straight (!) - now you know why I've suddenly had the urge to freshen it up! So, the carpet is coming out, and Colin will put laminate flooring in there - we had some left over from the kitchen. So the eventual colour scheme will be a harmonious blend of white (the bathroom suite is white, the woodwork will be white, the light fitting (which we had to replace today because the other one broke when I took it down to wash it) is white, and I have bought a nice new white bathmat) and browns (the floor is a cherrywood colour, the stone walls, and I intend to get a browns-based picture for the wall, and a brown bowl of some description which will sit on the windowsill, filled with brown pebbles).

God, this house depresses me! If only I could go out one day and return to find that the housework/declutter/redecorating fairies had been in for a visit and that everything was done. I don't know why it is that I just struggle so much with the simplest of tasks when it comes to housework. I wish someone would give me a kick up the arse!

Speaking of housework ... I need to go and get the washing out of the washing machine and into the tumble dryer before I take myself off to bed. Back to work tomorrow for another hectic week, no doubt.

I promise that next time I blog I won't be so bloody depressing!
